MIS107 @ 2020 Spring

Hello everyone!

I am Saif Rahman and I have completed the course, Computer Information System (MIS107) with Mr. Adeyl Khan as my course instructor in the Spring 2020 semester. The course is not very difficult per say and I found the faculty to be amiable, cooperative and someone who expects professionalism from you.

Just follow instructions and get support from the course website. Don’t get confused by some negative rumors which will just demotivate you and disrupts you from learning. If you can study smart, you’ll definitely get a good grade. You need to be focused and organized with your activities. If you face any difficulties do not hesitate to talk to the faculty. He will help you with all the information he can. Also, he makes the class enjoyable with “kacchi-pakki”, “jhalmuri”, and other funny examples. He makes you understand a system with these, and you learn that in a funny and enjoyable way.

Now I will talk about some tips and tricks that helped me throughout the course.

Course Website: This will be your bread and butter for this course. Learn the ins and outs of the course website at your earliest convenience. This is where you'll get all the updates regarding the course. All the slides, IOAs, assignment, lab and bonus details are going to be delivered to you thru the website. So, do keep a regular eye on the course website throughout the semester.

Class & Attendance: Do not miss classes. I can’t stress this point enough. Try to maintain full attendance. Try to find the class fun. You may get a maximum 3% bonus for having outstanding attendance (100% recorded attendance). Participate as much as possible, share your thoughts when questions are asked. If you make a mistake, the feedback from the faculty will help you to make future answers better.

Online Class Activities: As you know, due to pandemic we had to continue almost half of our semester online. We attended online classes, online lab works, submitted our assignments for final online. This experience was totally different from the regular classes. You need patience and attention during online classes. Also, for the assignments I had to research and write accordingly. It was a bit new to me and got me confused at first, but it helped me a lot to learn. Online classes are not much different if you pay enough attention and have patience.

IOAs: Solve the IOAs as soon as they are posted on the website. Though all of them are optional now, they will help you a lot for your Mids and Final. All of the MCQs and T/F come from the IOAs. So, if you want to get good marks in Mids and Final, IOAs are a must.

Sample Questions: Solve the sample questions from the previous semesters before your Mids or Final as they're going to offer you a very good idea about the short and broad question patterns. Also don't miss the class before the exams because the faculty will undergo one among the sample questions and discuss a way to answer them. You may get a bonus for bringing a solved sample question in this review class as well.

Exams: The exams are quite easy, provided you have followed the previous tips. Short questions are very diagram based. So, practice the necessary diagrams beforehand. Broad questions generally come from group assignment and lab work. So, make sure to possess a decent understanding regarding those. Also, be short and precise with your answers. Don't write unnecessary literature.

Lab Work: Labs are generally very simple and easy to follow. Just follow the instructions and you will be good to go. In this case you have to be sharp enough. But if you have any problem regarding the lab work, you can obviously ask for help to your faculty.

Group Assignments: Be sure to choose your group mates carefully. Try to maintain a constant back and forth communication with them. Also, before starting an assignment, be sure that everyone is on the same page regarding the assignment topic and the divided tasks. The faculty is very critical while checking group assignments so a lacking part can be detrimental to your GA grade.

Presentations: Presentations are very simple. Just be sure to follow the dress code and be professional and sophisticated with your delivery and speech. Presentations are optional but you do get a decent bonus added to your GA grade. So, if you want a better grade, you should go for presentations.

Exam Paper Checking: The faculty checks the papers in front of you when you go to his office. I know it can be a little nerve racking but trust me, checking your mistakes and shortcomings will only help you in the next exams. Don’t hesitate to ask the faculty about any confusions you may have about any question or grading.

Bonuses: There are a lot of opportunities to get bonuses throughout the semester. So, be sure to keep an eye out on the course website and in class for any notice about them. Bonuses generally involve easy and simple tasks like bringing a laptop to the lab, giving presentations, bringing a solved sample question to the review class. These will add up and make a considerable contribution to your final grade.

Workload: As I said before, the workload is not that much. I did not face much pressure at all. Just be sure to be timely with your tasks and always be mindful of the deadlines. It does not take much effort to do well in this course if you just stay focused and disciplined.

Finally, my advice would be to simply enjoy the course. Don’t get stressed out about what others say about the faculty. Approach the course with an open mind and have fun. Remember, what you get in a course depends on your dedication and willingness to put in the work.

I am Sumaiya Zaman. I did MIS107 with one of the best faculty Mr. Adeyl Khan during the Spring’20 semester. Though we had faced so many ups & downs because of the pandemic, his guidance assisted us a lot. This course is designed in an easy way which will help you to get a good grade (only if you concentrate & collaborate profesesionally). I would like to suggest some ideas that helped me to get my desired grades, I hope this will help you too.

Class attendance and participation- Try to attend all the classes with positive thinking (please do come earlier at least 5 min ago). For 100% attendance, you will get 3% bonus.

Course website- Visit the course website regularly where you will get all the updates about your course contents like- Midterms, Assignment, IOAS/Quizzes, labs etc.

IOAs/quiz- there two options, you can give either IOAS(online quiz) or quiz(offline quiz means this will be held in the class). But I will recommend you to give an online quiz cause it will help you to prepare yourself for further exams.

Group Assignment (GA) & Term Project - GA is optional yet very important. Make a group carefully, try to be creative, and give some extra effort while doing GA. One broad question will come from here.

Exams- study all the slides very carefully and must solve the mock papers which will give you an idea about questions. And, must attend the question paper solving class and bring the mock paper, you will get a bonus for that.

Lab class- Don’t miss the lab classes and try to bring your own laptops in the lab class as it carries a bonus. Another broad question will come from here(Please be attentive during your lab classes and also in your GA.).

Bonus- try to seize all the bonus marks, this will help you to get a good grade.

For any sort of problem, do contact the CR if your problem is still unsolved without any hesitation meet the faculty, he’ll help you. There is no office hour as it’s an online class still you can talk to the faculty. After every class, he’ll give 10 min extra time to consult any issues. If you still need extra time or your problem is not solved you can book an office hour.

I am Mehedi Hasan. I have completed MIS107 under Mr. Adeyl Khan in spring' 20 semester and had an amazing time throughout the course. I have to mention that the facuty has a great sense of humor and tries his best to present all his lectures in an interesting way.

Being honest, the course is moderately tough and at some points, it gets very difficult to keep track of the course but all the course materials provided by the faculty helped me significantly to complete the course with a decent grade.

Here's how I aced the course.

Due to the pandemic, online classes were introduced and I was not at all interested in attending online classes as I feared that online classes won't be effective but I was wrong. The faculty gave a good effort to present all his slides online and it was not that difficult to understand the concepts. Moreover, there has his own MIS website where he updates each and everything that students need to complete the course. Class timings, lectures, online quizzes, meeting codes, lab works, etc are all available on the website.

In addition to this, keeping in touch with the textbook is very important. The end of chapter questions and glossary at the end of the book helped me a lot. Throughout the course, I was introduced to many new concepts and MIS terms. The textbook might seem boring and useless but trust me without it, it is not possible to get good marks in quizzes and term exams.

Coming to the lab works, they are very interesting even though I had to concentrate on every second of the class otherwise it is very easy to get lost in the lab works. I would encourage everyone to carry a laptop during the lab as it will get you a bonus.

For individual and group assignments it is important to have a clear knowledge of all the topics covered in class. Understanding the topic and good research on the topic of the assignment is crucial. Besides, I would encourage everyone to use office hours effectively as the faculty is always ready to help.

Without a valid reason, classes should not be missed. Getting full attendance is very easy and no one should miss this opportunity.

For term exams, the faculty has provided numerous question papers of recent semesters on his website and these papers are very helpful. Solving the papers will introduce the question patterns and help you prepare for the exams in the best possible way.

One good thing is the faculty gives the chance to collect as many bonuses as possible. It might seem that the bonuses are very small and not worth collecting but at the end of the semester, these bonuses play a very big role to acquire a good grade.

Following the class lectures, going through the slides and textbooks regularly, attending IOAs, and completing all the lab works and assignments on time helped me to get an A in MIS107. My name is Ashimur Rahman. I have completed the MIS107 course with one of the best faculties, Mr. Adeyl Khan in spring, 2020. The course helped me to have a good knowledge and sense of application from this course. It was truly an amazing journey. Here comes some tactics I suggest. 

Online Class: 

For the pandemic situation, we are doing the online class. It is the new version of education. But do not worry about it. The is quite good and very helpful. But you have to attend all of the classes and always be on time and try to participate as much as possible. I mention that you will receive 3% bonus for full attendance. 

Course Website: 

Course website is one of most important things in this course. You can find all the updates on this course and also you will get slides, IOAs, assignment details, previous questions and so on. 

Group Assignment: 

In this course, Group Assignment (GA) is very important. You have to choose your members wisely and carefully. You will get two GA. So, you should try to make your GA creative and submit it on the time. 

 Exam: 

Exams are quite easy but never try to study one day before the exam. Otherwise you will not get your desire mark. For the exam, you have to practice previous questions and you will get these questions in the website. 

Bonus: 

It is the most interesting things in this course. So, try to get as many as you can.

In conclusion, if you follow the lectures and make use of website and materials, you will get your desire grade. One thing, I have to mention it again that try to get all the bonus. I find Mr. Khan an amazing faculty and he always encourages you to get a better grade. Lastly, there will be many people who will try to demotivate you for dropping this course .But make sure you believe in yourself and give you best .Best of luck to you all, hope you enjoy this course.
