How I got a good grade:

Hello there!
If you spared some time out of your busy schedule to read my paragraph, I, Nayeem Ferdous, cannot thank you enough. When I first took the course, I had heard all dreadful (!) things about the course being very critical and how hard it is to ensure a good grade in it. Honestly, in the first few classes, I was clueless about the lectures. So if you are facing trouble in the first few classes, don’t lose hope. Here are a few tips and tricks that I followed that might come to use-

  • Don’t miss a class! Even if you do, make sure you have a valid reason and submit an application for it.
  • All the projects and assignments are very important, first of all, do a mind map for doing projects.
  • Join the Facebook group and keep a check on the updates regularly.
  • Try to participate in class, especially when a question pops up in your head regarding the topic. The faculty gives enough chances to ask questions and if your question is logical, you might end up with bonus points like me.
  • Concentrate on the topics covered in class.
  • Study in groups before exams, it helps a lot with confusions and makes you remember better.
  • Put extra emphasis on charts and diagrams, I always noted them down in my cheat sheets.
  • Make your cheat sheets while studying, it helped me remember the topics very well and where I’ve written it down.
  • Study well for the IOAs and revise them before exams, they carry a lot of marks.
  • Go through the guidelines of term projects and group assignments and if you have confusions, ask the faculty or his TA(!), they are very helpful. We showed the faculty our progress of work before the submission dates to guide us and show our errors, and he helped us to get on track.
  • The faculty gives a lot of chances to earn bonus points, grab them!
  • Check the midterm papers and see where your faults are, make sure you don’t repeat them next time.
  • The course is very well structured with clear guidelines, so make sure you follow them. You get almost all your queries cleared from the website itself.

What I learned from this course is that it’s not only hard work that makes you succeed, you also need to have a clear idea of what you are doing. And as  they say, if plan A doesn’t work, there have lots of more alphabets to try on!
All the very best, may the odds be in your favor …

How I got a good grade:

Hello Everyone

My name is Md Ashfaque Uz Zaman and I completed my MIS 205 with Mr. Adeyl Khan. Initially I would like to confirm that faculty is not at all like the Facebook reviews you find regarding him. You can rest assured that with a little hard work, you can achieve outstanding results. You are likely to find the first few classes quite overwhelming and difficult but trust me, after a while you will get a hang of things. Get ready for a wild ride of Kacchi/Pakki, Ananto Jalil, Laila-Majnu, Sherkhan and other whimsical illustrations of real life examples.

Here are my tips to getting an A:

  • Read all the questions of the FAQ section and all of the policies. There are ample chances of getting bonuses. Don’t miss out on that.
  • Be responsive in class. You will get a maximum of 3% bonus in Mid 1 for class participation.
  • Don’t get demoralized by criticism. Endure all that and learn from your mistakes. Go and talk to the faculty during office hours and address your queries and confusions.
  • IOAs are one of the most essential part of this course. Take them seriously and study them earnestly during exams.
  • Studying overnight is not a wise option for this course. I strongly recommend to read the book thoroughly and understand the whole concept. Don’t attempt to memorize, just grasp the gist. Things that you find hard should go on the Cheat Sheet. Cheat Sheet is the real game changer. Make sure you utilize every inch of your cheat sheet. Don’t write stuff which is common or you can remember. Write the difficult definitions/explanations, draw some scrap diagrams and also a few examples to help you remember the concept.
  • Attend all classes. Remember you will receive 3% bonus for full attendance.
  • Lastly, attend the workshops that the faculty arranges. The individual and group assignments can be tough, so make sure you get all the help you can. Also show your drafts to the faculty and get his advice.

Best of luck everyone. I would like very much to help you studying for the course and feel free to contact me on 01686403784.

How I got a good grade:

Dear fellow students,

First things first, welcome to "the class"! I know you are a little clueless now because, let’s just admit, this class is unlike(!) other typical MIS classes. I have done both MIS105 and MIS205 with the faculty and I beleive if you are just an ordinary student who wants to get a good grade, and have a willingness to work hard enough to earn that grade, you are in the right place. Here are some tips that will come handy if you really want to get a good grade.

IOAs and lab assignments are the easiest ways to up your grades pronto. IOA allows much more time than traditional quizzes held in classroom. Therefore, make sure you go through the textbook and PowerPoint slides to prepare yourself very well. Focus more on bolded words and definitions. You do not have to answer all the questions in one shot (during an IOA). Answer some, relax yourself, and then come back again to answer the rest. As for lab assignments, you will have to demonstrate it by screencasting. You will have plenty of time to do that, so make your video flawless by meeting the requirements and time limit to get full mark. To prepare for midterms and final, read the textbook, PowerPoint slides, and revise the IOA questions meticulously, and for your own benefit, you may as well research the topics on internet.

Your Term Project is due in just two days and you have not started it yet! Avoid facing this situation. Choose an organization you care about. For group assignments and term projects, you must make a mind map with the information you obtained and show it to your teacher before starting. For group assignments in this class, you do not have to write pages after pages and exhaust yourself in the process. Group assignments are usually based on very interesting topics, designed to enhance your knowledge beyond textbooks and equip you with skills to solve real-world problems. Pay attention when the assignment requirements are being discussed in the class. If you still have problems catching the requirements, consult with your teacher during his office hours. The faculty has been helpful.

Bonus are grade savers! During the lectures, the faculty will often give you opportunities to earn bonus by answering his questions. Therefore, it is important that you are attentive in the class. For other ways to earn a bonus, check the course website. Course website itself will answer most of your queries. Go through the policies and FAQ at the beginning of the semester. You must check the website regularly otherwise you could end up missing out on some great bonus opportunities. Also, wear only business formals or business casuals in the presentation to get better marks. This class will groom you for your future, and you will surely learn professionalism. The faculty does not appreciate students who enter the class late. Please, try your best not to come late because it disturbs not only the teacher, but also the students. Do not skip classes unless you are faced with an emergency. Since I had perfect attendance, I was rewarded with a 3% bonus.

This class is not just about quizzes, midterms and a project due at the end of the semester. It is much more than that. By the end of this class, in addition to the basics of computer applications and various types of information systems used in business environment (MIS105) and E-Business and E-Commerce in the digital world (MIS205), you will have learnt professionalism, meeting deadlines, and working under pressure.

To a memorable semester ahead!
